What is a Fairy Tale?
A fairy tale is a type of narrative or short story that involves imaginary characters and magical events. It often begins with the phrase “Once upon a time” and usually ends with “happily ever after.” Fairy tales have been told and retold for centuries, passed down orally before being written in books.
These stories are not only for children, but also for adults. Many fairy tales reflect human values, culture, and moral lessons that guide people in real life. For example, fairy tales often show the difference between good and evil, reward good characters, and punish bad ones.
Characteristics of a Fairy Tale

Fantasy Elements – Fairy tales include magical creatures such as fairies, witches, giants, or talking animals. Objects may also be enchanted, like a flying carpet or a magic mirror.

Good vs. Evil – There is usually a conflict between good characters (heroes, princesses, kind animals) and evil ones (witches, monsters, greedy people).
-

Example of a Famous Fairy Tale: Cinderella
Once upon a time, there was a kind girl named Cinderella. She lived with her cruel stepmother and stepsisters who treated her unfairly. One day, the king held a royal ball and invited all young ladies. Cinderella wanted to join, but her stepmother forbade her.
Suddenly, her fairy godmother appeared and magically gave her a beautiful dress, glass slippers, and a carriage. At the ball, the prince fell in love with her. But when the clock struck midnight, she had to leave quickly, losing one glass slipper. The prince searched for the owner of the slipper throughout the kingdom. Finally, he found Cinderella, and they lived happily ever after.

Pesan moral: Kebaikan dan kesabaran pada akhirnya akan membawa kebahagiaan dan keadilan.
