  BAWEAN DAN ASAL-USULNYA      Bawean merupakan sebuah pulau kecil yang dikitari pulau-pulau yang lebih kecil lagi seperti Pulau Selayar, Mamunik, Noko, Gili, Nusa, Karangbila, dan Pulau Cina. Dihuni 107.000 jiwa dengan mata pencaharian penduduk se- bagian besar nelayan dan bertani yang tergabung dalam satu suku bangsa yakni Suku Bawean. Namun kini, seiring dengan berkembangnya zaman, pekerjaan penduduk pulau Bawean cukup variatif, seperti berdagang barang dan jasa, guru, pegawai negeri sipil, dan lain-lain.      Pulau yang luasnya ± 200 km2 ini berada kurang lebih dua belas mil laut atau 120 kilometer sebelah utara Kota Gresik.
